Fejiri Okenabirhie looks back at Town's win over Tranmere Rovers.
Shrewsbury Town took on Tranmere Rovers yesterday evening in a Checkatrade Trophy clash.
Town ran out 6-0 winners over the visitors, with goals from: Lenell John-Lewis, Omar Beckles, Greg Docherty and Fejiri Okenabirhie.
Okenabirhie was the man of the match, netting three goals for Town in the tie. The forward was pleased with his contribution to the win and feels his team can now push on.
“It was great to get the win firstly and score six goals,” Okenabirhie said. “And personally to get a hat trick was great for me.
“It’s a great feeling and it’s always good to score goals - to get three in one game doesn’t come around often, so I’m going to enjoy it.
“This was my first for Shrewsbury, so hopefully there is more to come.
“You have to be patient and wait for your opportunity to get into the team. Every time you play you need to give the manager something to think about.
“I am glad I was able to do well tonight and hopefully we can push on now.”
Okenabirhie was pleased with the performance and hopes his team can continue that form going forward.
“It was good,” Okenabirhie said. “When everything is ticking like that it’s great to play and must be great to watch. It was a great team performance
“We pushed on and got stronger and we were really clinical today. It was a great day for us.
“We have a strong squad here with a lot of good players. It’s important that everyone is fit, sharp and ready for when it’s their time to play.
“We have been unlucky with a few results, but Saturday was great to get that win. Hopefully on Saturday we can go on a little run and keep pushing up the table.
“The boys will be buzzing from Saturday and today, so we will have a good couple of days training and we will go up to Fleetwood confident we can get the three points.”
