First team coaches reaction after Central League Cup win

Shrewsbury Town took on their first Central League Cup fixture this afternoon against Bristol Rovers.

Fejiri Okenabirhie, Lenell John-Lewis and Limfumpa Mwandwa all got on the scoresheet to top off a dominant performance for Town.

Town first team coach George Pilkington was pleased with how the team performed and was happy with the result.

“The lads approached it with a great attitude,” Pilkington said. “They got passing the ball early on and passed it with a purpose.

“We created a lot of chances today and got a thoroughly deserved victory.

“We have been guilty of not starting well in previous games, but the lads were on it today and I think you could see they were enjoying it.

“We created a lot of chances probably could have had a few more goals.”

Pilkington was happy that a number of the Town squad were able to get even more minutes under their belt and was happy with the youth team players contribution.

“Everybody has come through ok,” Pilkington said. “James Bolton came off towards the end and has a bit of a knock but I don’t think it’s anything serious.

“It’s more minutes for them and I’m sure they all enjoyed it today. It was a great opportunity to go running around and try to one or two things.

“To come away from it with three goals and a clean sheet is brilliant.

“It’s always great to see the youth out there running around. They showed enthusiasm and they wanted to do well.

“For Lifumpa Mwandwe to score at the end – it was a great finish for him inside the box and he thoroughly deserved it.”
