John Askey post Barnsley

23 October 2018

John Askey reflects on Town's 3-1 win against Barnsley.

Shrewsbury Town took all three points this evening after beating Barnsley 3-1.

Goals from Greg Docherty, Ollie Norburn and Luke Waterfall ensured Town took all the points from the tie.

The Town boss, John Askey, was pleased to get the win and was happy with his player’s performances.

”It was probably our best performance,” Askey said post match. “I thought the work rate was what we are after.

“That gave us a platform to play as well as we did. We came in at half-time thinking we should have scored more goals really – that was the only disappointment.

“It’s what I needed and what the club needed – you can’t ask the players for any more than that.

“They’re a good team, they have done really well until Saturday and today. They’ll be up there come the end of the season.

“If we can compete against teams like that – then there is no reason why we cant start looking to progress up the table.”

Askey also made a point of thanking the fans for their support during the match.

“I have said since I came here that I was surprised at how supportive the supporters are,” Askey said. “They really get behind the players and it does make a difference.

“It’s a really good club and that’s why I want to do well for the club. If I don’t it wouldn’t be from a lack of trying.

“It’s a great club and everybody wants to do well.

“We are seeing signs in every game and we are competing. We have got to make sure we do that for 90 minutes each game.”
