John Askey Pre Fleetwood

Gaffer looks ahead to Saturday's game against Fleetwood

Shrewsbury Town take on Fleetwood Town in the clubs next Sky Bet League One fixture.

Askey’s men will be looking to go five games unbeaten against Joey Barton’s Cod Army.

Askey is hoping his team can perform off the back of a positive week for his side.

“Every win is important,” the gaffer said. “Having got the draw at Walsall, it was important we followed that up with a win.

“Accrington going down to 10 men gave us a better chance than normal and we took it.

“I was pleased with the performance, given it was against 10 men, but I thought we kept the ball quite well and created one or two chances again.

“It was important to get that win. We didn’t get frustrated – they kept playing and it can become quite difficult against 10 men.

“I thought that’s where the supporters helped. They could have got on the players backs, but they didn’t. They got behind the players and it paid off.

“Everybody performed really well in the Checkatrade game. To get the six goals was even better.

“It wasn’t as if we were playing a Tranmere team that was full of youth-team players, all of them have played for Tranmere, so I was pleased with it.”

Town next take on Fleetwood Town at their Highbury Stadium and Askey will be looking to extend the unbeaten run to five games.

“They have some good players,” Askey said. “They had a good win against Doncaster, 4-0 away from home shows that they’re a decent side.

“It will be tough. The conditions will be tough up there with the wind and it usually rains.

“We have just got to compete and hopefully we can keep doing what we have been doing and get results.

“The supporters who go up there will want to see us trying to play - which we will try and do. The main thing is that we come away with something.”
