John Askey pre Oxford

25 October 2018

John Askey looks ahead to Town's clash with Oxford United.

Shrewsbury Town take on Oxford United on the weekend away at the Kassam Stadium.

Town will be looking to make it back-to-back league wins, after a positive result earlier in the week.

John Askey was pleased with the result earlier on in the week and hopes his team can build on that performance.

“Going into the game we knew it would be a tough ask,” the Town boss said. “They are a team that have started the season well.

“We started on the front foot with the early goal and it settled us down. I thought for the majority of the game we did really well.

“The two up top worked really hard closing down and that gave us the platform to go on.

“With having the two up top you get more bodies in the box. What was surprising was the goals came from the midfielders and Luke.

“If we keep banging on the door enough times, eventually the goals will start to go in.”

Askey is expecting a tough game from Oxford, but feels his team have enough to secure all three points.

“They are a team that are improving,” Askey said. “There is no easy games in this league and that has been proven.

“We have done well against the top teams as we have against the ones around us - We won’t be taking any games lightly.

“It’s important that we start to show the fighting spirit that we showed on Tuesday.

“We don’t want to be doing that come April time, so this is the time now to try and push on to gives us that breathing space.

“No matter where we play we have to feel confident that we can get a result.

“I’m sure the fans will come down. They have supported us well on their travels this season.

“I’m sure they will be there and be vocal. Hopefully they are cheering us on for a win.”
