Mwandwe signs proffesional terms.

Shrewsbury Town are delighted to announce that Lifumpa Mwandwe has signed professional terms with the club.

The young forward has put pen to paper on a deal that will see him stay with the club until at least 2020, with a years option in the clubs favour.

The Town boss, John Askey, is pleased with the latest addition to the squad and is looking forward to seeing what Mwandwe can add to the team.

“I’m pleased that he’s signed,” the Town boss said. “He’s done really well in the youth team and when he’s been involved the first-team.

“He’s shown a lot of promise and for a club like Shrewsbury it’s important that we have players coming through.

“As I say - he’s an exciting player and one who’s been scoring a lot of goals.

“He was on for a short period of time in the Central League Cup. For the period he was on he did well and got a goal, so you can’t ask for much more than that.

“He’s got a lot of ability and hopefully he can keep improving and in the future be good player for Shrewsbury.”

Askey has been tracking the progress of the academy and feels the time was right for Mwandwe to sign professional terms with the club.

“We get reports on him and on how well he’s been doing,” said Askey. “When he’s come in he’s looked like a player and it doesn’t take long to see when somebody has got ability.

“I speak to Eric about players and Lifumpa’s name always appeared, that’s what we want - we want lads coming through. Hopefully we have a few more.”
