Ramsay Talks Mwandwe's Pro Deal

9 October 2018

Academy Manager Eric Ramsay spoke to Shrewsweb about Mwandwe signing a pro deal at the club

Shrewsbury Town is delighted to announce Lifumpa Mwandwe has signed professional terms with the club. The deal will see him stay at the club until at least 2020 with a possible years extension.

Academy Manager Eric Ramsay who has seen young Fumpa flourish under his wing, expressed how proud he was that Mwandwe had been given a pro contract.

"We as an Academy are delighted. It's probably the best moment in an Academy Coaches role I would say. It's the first step of many for him to becoming a full time professional.

"It's a step up he thoroughly deserves to make because he's been exceptional so far this season. He's worked really hard to get to the point where he's at.

"It's rewarding for me and also all the Academy coaches that have worked with him the last 4 years that he has been in the Academy. The academy in general with have a huge good feeling about today. We just hope he's got some of the skills required to go on and make it at first-team level."

"He's a phenomenal athlete when he first came to the Academy before my time I gather he was quite raw technically and he's worked really hard to refine that. He's now better in front of goal, better on the ball, better in possession. All those qualities as well as being a great athlete give him all the ingredients to be a really good player.

"I'm hoping Fumpa benefits from training every day with the first team and perhaps goes and thrives at a loan club and hopefully that will put him in a better position to knock on the Gaffers door."
