Safe Standing For Sunderland

14 October 2018

Safe Standing looks like selling out for Sunderland

Shrewsbury Town welcome Sunderland to the Montgomery Waters Meadow on Saturday in the Sky Bet League One.

It will be the first time in 29 years that the two sides have met in the league, the games ended 0-0 at the Gay Meadow and at Roker Park it was a 2-1 win for Sunderland during the 1988/89 season.

Sunderland have sold out their allocation of tickets for the game and the travelling supporters are sure to make themselves heard.

The Safe Standing area of the Salop Leisure Stand has been a big hit with supporters since opening at the start of the season.  Spaces in the area are selling fast and it looks like being a sell-out in the area for Saturday's game.

If you are planning to use the safe standing area on Saturday the club are urging fans to get their tickets as soon as possible.

Town CEO Brian Caldwell is looking forward to seeing the safe standing area packed on Saturday.

“Since the start of the season the safe standing area has added a great atmosphere to the ground", said Brian.

“We know Sunderland fans will be in good voice and we need the Town fans to get behind John and the players.

“We’ve seen over the season the excellent support the team have had, both at the Montgomery Waters Meadow and on the road.

“We need that atmosphere again on Saturday and I’m hoping that a sold out safe standing area will help provide that.

“If anyone is thinking of moving to safe standing for the Sunderland game or trying it our for the first time I’d urge them to get their tickets as soon as they can.”
