Shelis selected for Cyrpus

21 October 2018

Christos Shelis has once again been selected for the Cyprus under-19 squad.

Good news for Christos Shelis as the defender has been selected for the Cypriot under-19’s national team.

The 18-year-old will link up with his country today as they prepare for the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.

Shelis was proud to have been selected and is looking forward to his time away with the Cypriot national team.

“For a Cypriot international it’s the best thing to do - representing your country,” Shelis told Shrewsweb. “Every time I go there I try to embrace it.

“As you get older you want to progress and I feel really privileged to get the chance to play for the 19’s.

“I feel like it’s good to be in your own country and speaking you own language.

“At this age the right thing to do is play games and it will help my progression if I play a full 90.

“With the club and international football you can prove yourself by playing games. I want to play to give myself chance of playing for Shrewsbury and higher up with the national team.”

Shelis feels his football is developing nicely with the national team and is feeling the benefits from training with Town’s first-team.

“I feel like Shrewsbury have given me a lot of the experience that I have,” said Shelis. “Training with the first-team the last two years gave me a chance to progress as a player.

“Playing international football isn’t an easy thing. Playing for the 19’s is a good chance to show your self at a high level.

“I just want to play well there and show the gaffer I can give it a go here.”
