John Askey Pre Gillingham

Gaffer looks ahead to Town's fixture against Gillingham.

Shrewsbury Town welcome Gillingham to the Montgomery Waters Meadow this weekend for another Sky Bet League One fixture.

Town will be looking to bounce back after taking a defeat - away from home at Scunthorpe United’s Glanford Park.

John Askey feels his team could have done more to earn valuable points away from home.

“Every game that we play, we want to win,” Askey told Shrewsweb. “If you don’t get that win away from home you want to come away with a draw.

“It was probably the first game that I have been really disappointed – having got the win the previous week.

“First off we were quite comfortable, there wasn’t a lot in the game and then second-half we let ourselves down – that’s what was disappointing.

“We weren’t at it in the first 15 minutes, you can’t afford to do that. I have let the players know that I was disappointed, but that’s probably the first time.”

Askey feels he has seen a reaction in training, and the Town boss is expecting a tough game from the Gills.

“Training has been good since I came in,” Askey said. “Their attitude is really good in training.

“We have tried to lift the tempo again on the back of that result and hopefully we go into the game on Saturday and keep pushing.

“Gillingham are obviously like ourselves – I suppose a little disappointed with their results.

“They do play quite open football and they go a little bit gung-ho at times and we have got to be aware of that and try and exploit it.

“Home form is what you build on and you want to do well for the home support, so it’s important we get the wins and hopefully we start on a run.”

Town have no new injury worries ahead of the fixture with the Gills.
