John Askey looks ahead to Saturday's trip to Fratton Park
Shrewsbury Town’s next Sky Bet League One fixture is against high-flying Portsmouth.
Askey’s men will travel to Fratton Park on Saturday with the aim of getting the first three points of the season.
Askey feels the last game provided positives, which his team can take into the next fixture.
“I thought we played well,” Askey told Shrewsweb. “Obviously, we didn’t score the goals that the play deserved.
“I thought as spectacle it was a decent game and we performed well again – but we keep saying that don’t we. We still created chances.
"I think it was inevitable that the sending off was coming with the amount of fouls they were committing.
“When I look back – we had one or two chances and a few headers that we should have scored.
“We hope that if the goals do go in we can keep it tight at the back and not give away stupid penalties.
“I think the players are confident and they’re all playing well, that’s what you want.
“The mood is quite buoyant despite not getting the wins that we need. Hopefully it’s just a matter of time.”
Askey’s men will face second place Portsmouth in the next fixture. Askey is expecting a tough test from Pompey who have started their season well.
“I’m expecting a very tough game,” Askey said. “They’re flying at the moment. Obviously the crowd is going to be big and will get behind them.
“We have got to quieten the crowd and keep the ball. I think if we can do that for the first 20 minutes – then we can get ourselves into the game and get a foothold.
“We have got to try and cause them problems. We know it will be difficult, but these are the games you want to pay in and I’m sure the players are looking forward to it.
“It will be massive if we can get a result there and that could change our season.”
The game is scheduled to be all ticket, with no pay on the day available.
