Gaffer looks ahead to Saturday's game against Southend

Shrewsbury Town face Southend United this Saturday in Town’s next Sky Bet League One fixture.

Askey’s men will be looking to build on their good performance last time out against Portsmouth, where Askey’s side drew 1-1.

Askey feels his side are still feeling confident ahead of Town’s fixture against Chris Powell’s men.

“The mood is pretty buoyant,” the Town boss told Shrewsweb. “We are looking forward to Saturdays game.

“We can take plenty of confidence from the Portsmouth game.

“We would like to be in a higher position and we feel as though we have played well enough to get more points but we have to make it happen.

“We are going to put everything into Saturdays game and if we can replicate the performance and the finishing is better – then we have a great chance.

“We don’t seem to have had the rub of the green, but we have to make things happen ourselves. We aren’t looking for excuses, we have to be better and put games out of sight.”

Askey is expecting a tough test from the Shrimpers, but the Town manager feels his team have more than enough to get a result.

“They’re a good team,” Askey said. “They get goals, they tend to play 442 and every game we play is going to be tough.

“Southend are one of the better teams in the league, but we have to concentrate on ourselves as always. Hopefully we can dictate the game and come out on the right side.

“We need to keep the ball and create the chances that we have been creating. We are due to start putting our chances away, so hopefully that comes on Saturday.”
