Mat Sadler Post Southend

Mat Sadler reacts to Shrewsbury's 2-0 win against Southend

Shrewsbury Town picked up their first three points of the season with a 2-0 win over Southend. Docherty got an early goal for Town. Angol then doubled their lead on the stroke of half time.

Sadler was delighted that his defensive line managed to keep a clean sheet but also ‘buzzing’ to reward the fans with a win.

“Delighted for the fans, it was good to get that goal early and get them right behind us. I haven’t seen anything different in my time here, they are always behind you.”

“I feel like we’re growing as a team. It feels like we’re on the right track and today was good to finally get that win.”

“It is fine margins, luck was on our side with a few decisions but I think we’ve earned that.”

“I was pleased for Doc because, you saw throughout his energy, he’s got so much of it and that can be infectious throughout the team. He pops up in good positions and good goalscoring opportunities as well.”

“Lee’s finish was very good as well. It flew at him and he kind of flew his foot at it and it’s gone in the bottom corner. It was good to score just before half time you could see the deflation in them when we scored that goal.”

“Joel made some good saves and kicked it well so I was pleased for him.”

“Granty’s a good lad. He’s a different character and a good person to have about the place. He’s another infectious character. He’s got good standards about him and definitely brings something to the team.”

When asked about where Shrewsbury could go from here Sadler replied “Who knows. You put back to back wins in the league and you are suddenly in the top half. There’s no team I’ve played so far that I have thought have outdone us and there’s no team I’ve been fearful of but you have to deliver and put in performances as they come thick and fast.”
