Academy Manager David Longwell speaks to Shrewsweb about Rowland's new deal.
Shrewsbury Town are delighted to announce that promising young midfielder James Rowland has put pen to paper and signed a new two-year pro deal with the club which will run until the end of the 2020/21 season.
Academy Manager David Longwell spoke to Shrewsweb about Rowland signing a new pro deal with the club.
“It’s great when you have players stepping up from the academy into the first-team and being involved
“It’s also great for all the staff, particularly for the coaches that have worked with James.
“I like James and that goes without saying because he has done so well. I love his attitude, he’s very receptive of information given to him.
“He’s shown a very good attitude in wanting to learn and I think that half the battle with any young player if they want to learn.
“As a footballer, he shows so much potential. He’s a good all-around midfielder. He can defend, he can attack, he has a good range of passing.
“He ticks a lot of boxes and shows a really aggressive side to his game. He prove he can play with and without the ball.
“Credit goes to the academy but a lot of credit goes to him. It's now down to him to show he wants to work and get better.
“As long as he continues with his attitude and continues to develop his potential is very high – we all hope he does well.
“He’s got this opportunity which he deserves. We are all proud of him at the academy.
“We have a great relationship with the manager in making sure we have that pathway into the first-team.
“James is an example of that. It shows what we are trying to do and makes people want to be a part of it.
“It’s now about how he can adapt to the first-team now. I think he can learn quickly and that’s all he needs to do.
“James has a really good personality and doesn’t get fazed. I think he will do well.”
