James Rowland signs a two-year pro deal with Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury Town are delighted to announce that promising young midfielder James Rowland has put pen to paper and signed a new two-year pro deal with the club which will run until the end of the 2020/21 season.

Rowland became a first-year scholar last year and has really impressed the Town hierarchy, most noticeably when he was awarded Man Of The Match for his performance against Port Vale earlier in the year.

Rowland spoke to Shrewsweb and explained how delighted he was to have committed his future to the club.

“It feels really good," said Rowland. "It’s something I have been working toward. I am happy it’s all done now.

“I’ve been with the club a few years now and it has been a great place to be – I am happy to be here for at least another two years.

“It’s massive for me and the family, they are really proud. They’ve been taking me to games from a very young age, so I am very happy for everyone.

“It has been a long journey. I started football when I was six and went to West Brom and then Shrewsbury.

“It has been a hard two years to get here but I am happy it's here and happy to have signed the contract.

Rowland becomes another graduate from the Town Academy system where he will join the likes of Ryan Barnett and Ryan Sears who are impressing at first-team level.

“It’s a good feeling but I need to keep kicking on. I want to try and get into the first-team if I can.

“I want to get as many first-team appearances as I can and play for this club.

“I’ve had good advice when training with the first-team and had good feedback. I want to improve as a player for next season.

“I feel I have a lot more to give. I am working hard to be a better player and hopefully, I can get into the first-team.”
