Ryan Sears New Deal

21 April 2019

Shrewsbury Town are delighted to announce that Ryan Sears has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

Shrewsbury Town are delighted to announce that young defender Ryan Sears has committed his future to the club by signing a two-year extension which will see him at the club until the 20/21 season with the option of another year.

After joining the club at 14, Sears has worked his way through the Academy system and has made a real name for himself in the first team, most noticeably in his Man Of The Match performance against Wolves in the Fa Cup earlier this year.

Sears spoke to Shrewsweb and expressed his delight about signing a new contract for the club.

"It's amazing," Sears said. "To be offered a two-year deal with the club I've been at since I was 14 is an unreal feeling but it's now time to push on I think.

"This year has probably been one of my best years with training and games I've played in. The Gaffer, Coyney and Eric have all picked up on me improving so I think that recognition got me the contract.

"Shrewsbury is a really big club for me personally. To get my first contract was amazing and now to get another offer was even better.

"The hard work starts here now. I want to be playing regularly next season which is a massive ask but if I have a good pre-season anything can happen.

"My Mum and Dad were over the moon. My friends are all buzzing for me, so I've had a lot of praise to be fair.

Sears looked back at his time with the club and said how much he thinks he's developed as a player since joining Town.

"When I came in at 14, I wasn't really a centre half or a right back, I was more of a midfielder. I played my first game as a centre half and that was that I stayed in defence and I've seen massive progress every year.

"With me being a homegrown player I think that's a huge credit to the club."
