Sam Ricketts discusses Racism ahead of Town's Kick It Out fixture against Scunthorpe United

Shrewsbury Town will support the ‘Kick It Out’ 25th year anniversary this weekend with the clash against Scunthorpe.

Town will support their Week of Action and will be wearing the Kick It Out jerseys during the warm-up.

Sam Ricketts spoke to Shrewsweb regarding racism in football

"There is no place for racism in football or in society. Football generally highlights what’s going on in society as much as anything.

"I think very largely we have tackled the situation rather well but we still have room to go. You probably realise it when you go to Eastern-Europe – you see how far we have come.

"I have heard bits. Once you go into race or religion you are certainly overstepping the mark. If no one makes a fuss about it, it probably gets brushed under the carpet.

"We live in a modern world and you’d like to think that these pre-historic views have been left behind."

We encourage supporters to report any discriminatory abuse they see in and around the Montgomery Waters Meadow today or in the future.

If you are a victim or witness any form of discrimination whilst at Montgomery Waters Meadow please contact your nearest steward or report it confidentially to Kick It Out on its website, on 0800 169 9414 or via its free app which is available on iPhone or Android.
