Sam Ricketts Post Barnsley

19 April 2019

Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's narrow loss to Barnsley.

Shrewsbury Town were unable to secure a third consecutive away win and lost out 2-1 to Barnsley.

Despite Town securing a goal through Tyrese Campbell, Sam Ricketts and his side left Oakwell without any points.

Sam Ricketts was disappointed with the result but was pleased with the number of chances created.

“The quality of chances we have had is the most we have ever had,” said Sam. “I can’t quite remember a game where we have had such good chances.

“We scored one, we have had three one-on-ones, Luke Waterfall with the header round the back.

“The performance was outstanding. We have faced a team who are rightly at the top end of the table.

“Yes we gave them a few chances but we controlled the game. We had the better chances and should have scored. We could have scored five easily today.

“We didn’t come and shut up shop with one chance. We generated chances throughout the whole game.

“The game plan worked exactly as we wanted it to and you could see that with the first chance.”

Sam was disappointed his team conceded two goals and stressed the importance of being solid in both boxes.

“We weren’t solid in both boxes,” said Town’s manager. “At the other end we must defend and not give the ball away.

“With the second one we should have absorbed the run a little bit better. As a performance level, it was as good as I’ve seen this season.

“Tyrese has that ability to score goals and the least we deserved was getting back into the game.

“I thought w could have ran away with the game. Everything was right apart form us not taking our chances.”
