Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's 2-3 loss to Oxford United.
Shrewsbury Town were unable to hold on to a 2-1 lead and narrowly lose out to Oxford United.
Despite Ollie Norburn and Greg Docherty both getting on the score sheet, the Shrews were unable to secure any points.
Sam Ricketts was disappointed with the result and feels his team should do better to see the game out.
“It’s a real tough one to take in and analyse,” said Sam. “Disappointment is the biggest one.
“When you’re 2-1 up at home you expect to go on and see the game out – especially with how we have been playing recently.
“In the second-half we never got going and didn’t have any tempo. I tried to make changes just to get spark into the game.
“We just got caught with two long balls really. There were slight lapses of concentration.
“Ultimately we didn’t move the ball second-half, we didn’t move it from wing-back to wing-back.
“We didn’t move the ball like we should do and we ended up being far to passive in the game.
“It’s still taken two bits of disappointing defending for us to lose the game. I’m not saying we were great.”
Sam and his team are disappointed with the result but will now shift all of their focus on the next fixture.
“Everyone is disappointed because we know we have let down ourselves and the supporters– especially at home,” said Sam.
“I’m not sure if them going down to 10 men plays a part. It certainly wasn’t down to a lack of effort.
“Maybe we switched off a little bit and thought we could just go through the motions.
“I am bitterly disappointed at the result. We didn’t play with the zest or energy that we have recently.
“We now have to dust ourselves off, recover and prepare to go again next week.
“We have been fantastic in recent weeks. We just need to get ready to get something next weekend.”
