Sam Ricketts Post Scunthorpe United

6 April 2019

Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe United.

Shrewsbury Town managed to earn a point at home against Scunthorpe United.

Town had to come back from a goal down and managed to secure the goal late on.

Sam was pleased with his team’s fight but felt Town deserved more from the game.

“Ultimately I think a point is the least we deserved,” said Sam. “We were the ones asking the vast majority of the questions.

“We kept pressing, especially in the second-half. Virtually the whole of the second-half was played in their half.

“We kept pushing and pushing, made changes and kept going right until the end.

“There was only ever going to be one winner in the game, certainly after we got the goal.

“Before that, we gave a side something to hold on to and for the vast majority of the game we were on the front foot.

“We didn’t carve them open with great chance after great chance, but the game could have been very different.

“I think if we had gone 1-0 up in the game we would have gone on to win very comfortably.

“We gave a goal away, which was very disappointing but the character going forward from that was pleasing.”

Sam was pleased his side managed to get the point against a team who are in a similar position to Town.

“This was another good opportunity to put a stamp on the league,” said Sam.

“I thought our performance was better than last week but we couldn’t get as good a result.

“Last week we won in both boxes and took our chances. This week both boxes were probably 50/50.

“We were the ones pushing and asking the questions. Eventually the pressure told.

“It was only us pushing and we were the only ones who could have gone on to win the game.

“You have to give Scunthorpe credit. They managed the game, even in those grey areas."
