Sam Ricketts Pre Gillingham

11 April 2019

Sam Ricketts previews Town's away clash with Gillingham.

Shrewsbury Town are back on the road again this weekend as the Shrews take on Gillingham.

Town have a chance to go three games unbeaten with a win against the Gills and an opportunity to reach the 50 point mark.

Sam is looking forward to the tie and hopes to see his teams good form continued on the road.

“The vast majority of the last game was played with us on the front foot,” said Sam.

“It took an awful lot of hard work and effort for us to get one goal. Unfortunately, we ran out of time to get the second.

“We want to keep those points coming in, especially against the teams that are around you.

“I thought the performance was good but we didn’t test the goalkeeper enough. Them taking the lead changed the complexion of the game completely.

“Eventually our pressure told and we got one goal. The disappointing thing was that we ran out of time to get another.”

Sam is expecting a tough test from the Gills but feels his team have enough to win the game.

“Gillingham have one of the top goal scorers in the league with Tom Eaves,” said Town’s manager. “He is a player I know well.

“He’s put all of his attributes together this season and become a formidable force really.

“They are a team who have had one or two really good results. They are hard working and well organised.

“It’s not going to be an easy game, it’s going to be a real tough game for us.

“It doesn’t really concern me with it being away. We want to get results wherever we are. We have gone away from home and got results before.”
