Sam Ricketts Pre Oxford United

21 April 2019

Sam Ricketts previews Town's clash with Oxford United.

Shrewsbury Town next welcome Oxford United to the Montgomery Waters Meadow for the next Sky Bet League One fixture.

Town will be looking forward to the fixture and will be looking for a return to winning ways after their 2-1 away defat to Barnsley.

Sam Ricketts was pleased his side managed to create a number of chances in the last game and hopes to see that converted into goals against The U’s.

“Our work isn’t done,” said Sam. “We aren’t mathematically where we want to be. We have to keep going.

“If we had won the game at Barnsley 5-2 no one would have complained. We would have been sat here a little bit easer than we are now.

“If we put in a performance like that and create chances like that we would win an awful lot more than not.

“We are getting there and we have a real clear way of how we want to play. The game against Barnsley was the best in terms of executing a game plan.

“It has been really good going from Saturdays to Saturdays, with full weeks of training. Now we are back into quick turn around.”

Sam is expecting a tough test from the visitors but feels his team have enough to win the game.

“It’s going to be a really tough game,” said Town’s manager. “They have picked up some great victories recently.

“They got four wins on the bounce which saw them climb into mid-table, away from a relegation battle.

“They’ve been playing really good football and haven’t been winning games with the long ball.

“They look a very, very good team. They are playing like a team who should be threatening up the top end of the table.

“We are expecting a good side to come here who want to keep their good run going.”
