Shaun Whalley Post Barnsley

20 April 2019

Shaun Whalley reflects on Town's narrow 2-1 defeat away to Barnsley.

Shrewsbury Town were unable to secure another away win against Barnsley at Oakwell Stadium yesterday afternoon.

Town had managed to get on the score sheet but were unable to prevent the Tykes from taking the lead.

Shaun Whalley was disappointed with the result but feels his team put in a good performance.

“I think we should have won today really,” said Shaun. “If I had of taken my chance early on it would be a different game.

“I think we were just unlucky today and fair play to Barnsley. I thought we did really well against them – it just wasn’t to be today.

“Their keeper pulled four or five really good saves off. Scott Golbourne had a great attempt too.

“I think the keeper was their man of the match really. Tyrese’s finish was brilliant.

“His left foot is unbelievable and he knows where the back of the net is. It was a great strike.”

Shaun feels his team should take confidence from their performance and is looking forward to the next fixture.

“The game plan worked perfectly today just without the goals,” said the midfielder.

“This performance is massively encouraging. They are unbeaten in the league at home this season and we should have won today.

“We have to take this form into Monday now. It will be an interest game against Oxford.

“I enjoyed today even though the result isn’t what we wanted. It was a great atmosphere.

“I haven’t looked at any results yet to be honest. We just want to be mathematically safe as soon as possible. Hopefully that will happen on Monday."
