Shrewsbury Town In The Community Launch Brand New Extra Time Hub At Uplands Nursing Home
Shrewsbury Town in the Community are delighted to announce that they will be launching a brand new EFL Extra-Time Hub at Uplands Nursing Home from 29th April to provide even more opportunity for members of the local community who are retired or semi-retired to socialise with their peers through a range of activities.
‘Extra Time Hubs’ are a national project from the EFL Trust and will initially be delivered by 12 EFL Clubs including Shrewsbury Town in the Community. The Hubs will harness the power of football clubs in the local communities to bring people together
Extra Time Hubs have been made possible thanks to National Lottery funding from Sport England and aim to bring together retired and semi-retired people improve and increase the range of activities available to them in their free time provide them with the opportunity to meet like-minded people from the area proving that you’re never too old to do the things you’ve always wanted to do and have fun!
Shrewsbury Town in the Community’s health activator, Hayley Wells had this to say about the launch, 'I am excited to get the sessions started and it will be great for people to come along and meet others. We hope it will help address social isolation and be a meeting point for many. Hopefully I can share my experiences and inspire people to do activities they might not ordinarily do'
The Extra Time Hubs will run three times a week at the following times and locations.
Mondays @ Community Football Hub at Montgomery Waters Meadow, SY2 6ST from 11am-1pm
Mondays (from 29th April) @ The Uplands Nursing Home in Bicton Heath, SY3 8GA from 1:30pm-3pm
Thursdays @ Community Football Hub at Montgomery Waters Meadow, SY2 6ST from 10am-12pm
Extra-Time Hubs have proven to be very popular so far and by increasing the number of sessions Shrewsbury Town in the Community hope to be able to give even more access to the sessions to all from across Shropshire. The sessions include both light physical activity and social activities such as quizzes, bingo, multi-sports and even trips to the theatre and bowling!
