Town Hit With £4,500 Fine

27 April 2019

Shrewsbury Town have been fined £4,500 by the FA following a pitch incursion at the AFC Wimbledon game.

Following the final whistle a Shrewsbury Town supporter entered the pitch and walked up to the match referee.

The incident was reported to the FA by the match officials and after looking into the incident the Regulatory Commission have decided the club breached FA Rule E20 (a).

Town would like to remind all supporters that it is an offence to enter the field of play and the club will be liable for further charges from the FA if something similar happens again.

Town CEO Brian Caldwell acknowledged the findings of the FA commission.

“The club have taken on board the findings of the FA Commission and will not appeal their decision.

“The incident highlights that clubs will be fined and further action could be taken if supporters enter the field of play at any time.

“We take the safety of everyone inside the stadium seriously especially the officials and staff and players of both sides.

“We would like to remind supporters not to come onto the pitch at any time.

“£4,500 is a large fine and the club could have used that money in a more productive way rather than pay a fine that was avoidable.”

The supporter has been banned from all Shrewsbury Town games.
