Donald Love pre MK Dons

8 August 2019

Town got their season off to a great start with a 1-0 win at home to Portsmouth in the Sky Bet League One.

Out of the starting line-up, only Fejiri Okenabirhie played in the opening game of the 2018/19 season. Seven of the side that took to the Montgomery Waters Meadow pitch against Portsmouth were new faces and Donald Love was one of these.

Donald sat down with the press ahead of the MK Dons game and started by talking about the last few weeks.

"It's been a really good few weeks and the lads have been really good with me and helped me settle in", said Donald.

"Obviously the result at the weekend was good and the pre-season games have been good as well.

"The games have been good getting used to playing with everyone, all coming together and getting used to the system.

"We've been working hard on how the gaffer wants us to play and thankfully it came together at the weekend."

Donald was part of the new-look Town defence and it was a solid defensive debut. Against a Portsmouth side that is tipped for promotion, Town managed to keep them quiet.

"I thought we looked solid last weekend and hopefully we can do the same this weekend", said Donald.

"Hopefully we can help out the attackers a bit more by getting up there to support them."

The opening Sky Bet League One game against Portsmouth saw Town finish the day with all 3 points.

"It was a great atmosphere at the game, Pompey brought a lot of fans but ours were great as well", said Donald.

"You could tell they were a good team on the day but we showed how solid we can be and hard we can be to beat.

"Hopefully we can use all of that to make our home ground a place people don't want to come to and play."

The headlines went to Ryan Giles with a superb strike but there was also praise for the Town defence for a solid clean sheet.

"That's what we look to do 100%, and to do it against one of the top sides in our league was great to get", said Donald.

"They had just brought Marquis in and I think we stopped him well."

Attention now turns to a trip to Stadium Mk to take on MK Dons in their first game of the season. Donald is hoping Town can take the positives from Saturday's win into this weekend's game.

"We want to get that form going into all the games and hopefully we can do that again this weekend", said Donald.

"It's MK's first game so hopefully we can give them a bit of a shock as we've already had a game.

"Hopefully we can catch them cold a little bit and they won't be expecting us to come at them.

"It's a nice ground there as well so hopefully it will be a good day out for our fans."
