Shrewsbury Town are delighted to confirm the signing of young midfielder Louis Thompson on a season long loan from Premier League side Norwich City.
Louis started his career with Swindon Town before a move to Norwich City, he's had a couple of spells back at Swindon on loan and was called up in to the Welsh squad in May of this year.
“I’m absolutely happy to be here,” said Louis. “I’m delighted to get it all done. I’m looking forward to getting started now meeting all the boys and hopefully playing on Saturday.
“I played with Sam Ricketts at Swindon, he’s been messaging me in the summer and we’ve spoken a lot. It’s been something we’ve both been keen to get done and it’s over the line now and I’m ready to kick on.
“He’s shown interest from early on in my career and it’s always nice to know and reassuring to know that the manager cares about you and that there’s a place for you, I’m coming here now to be successful and win games.
“There’s a lot of the season still to go games come thick and fast so I’m looking forward to getting started and enjoying my time here.
“Norwich have always been good to me over the years and they were keen to get me some football so it’s nice to come to an agreement between the two clubs."
Louis spoke about how Ben Godfrey and Carlton Morris had both spoke so fondly of their time at the club and that played a deciding factor in Louis coming to the Town.
“They both spoke very fondly, they both enjoyed a fantastic season here, let’s hope I can emulate that as well.
“They’ve been telling me where to go and where they lived and all the bits like that, I’m in regular contact with them both and they have only ever spoke positively of the place.
“You only have to look at that season and seasons gone by, players have come here and enjoyed great success so it’s always an attractive club to come to.”
“I played a lot of football early doors in my career then struggled a bit with injuries, I was in and out a bit with Norwich, now I’m just looking to get settled and enjoy football again.
“I’m a player that can contribute at both ends of the pitch, I can defend and I like to go forward and attack, I’m happy to do whatever the manager sees fit for me but I’m just looking forward to putting the shirt on and getting out there on Saturday.
“I give 100% every single game that’s something I’m proud of and hopefully the fans can be as well.”
Thompson also has a wealth of international pedigree with Wales.
“I’ve played in the U21s and U19s, I was also training with the Wales squad over the summer that’s been a great experience and hopefully playing some more games here can only propel me in that.”
