U18s Back At Home

16 August 2019

Town's U18s are back at home on Saturday when they welcome Accrington Stanley to the Shrewsbury Sports Village.

They youngsters kicked off their EFL Youth Alliance season last week on the road at Blackpool.

In the end, it was a 4-2 defeat but the performance gives the U18s something to build on in Saturday's game.

Town's Professional Development Phase Coach Callum McKenzie is looking forward to seeing the U18s back at home.

"Saturday is a different game to Blackpool, we watched the game back on Monday morning and reviewed it. Highlighted some of the good things we did, highlighted some of the bad points with the Accrington game in mind", said Cal.

"We had a game on Thursday and we tried to implement some of those points with Saturday in mind.

"Accrington will play a different system, we have watched some of their footage and we think we know what we will expect.

"We will have a game plan and hopefully we can get our first win and build on that."

The U18s have called the Sports Village home for the last few seasons and will be playing on the competition pitch. Cal is hoping that a few more Town fans will start to come along to watch the youngsters.

"With the first team being at home on Saturday hopefully some fans will come down and make a proper day of it", said Cal.

"It's good when they come and support the young lads as it does give them a real lift when the fans come along.

"I think it's good for supporters to see what's coming through, with James and Barney involved with the first team on Tuesday night it's good.

"There are several other lads involved around the first team and think we've got a few more good ones coming through."

The game kicks off at 11 am at the Shrewsbury Sports Village (SY1 4RQ) and admission is free.
