All football supporters will have an element of sympathy for the current plight of League One side Bury and its fans. Non-more so than some of our own Shrewsbury Town Supporters who recently reformed the clubs away supporters team, known as the ASFC.
On Saturday morning a group of Bury supporters will travel down to Shropshire to play the Away Supporters team at Bayston Hill with a 10.30am kick-off. The game will be free for any town fans to come and watch, Following the game, they will then attend the League One fixture between Shrewsbury Town and Burton Albion after the Supporters Parliament organised for the Football Club to provide them with match tickets. They will also get a chance to watch the game from England's only Safe Standing area in the South Stand.
Well known town fan Glyn Price who has been instrumental in reforming the Away Supporters team approached the SP about the idea after he was contacted by Bury Supporters looking for a match, Glyn said, "A football fans who follow our team home and away the ASFC players all felt a huge degree of sympathy for the situation Bury fans find themselves in and wanted to see if the club would help them with some tickets to watch football. The club have been brilliant in providing this and hopefully, this provides an afternoon of football which the Bury fans can get back to as soon as possible"
Roger Groves from the Supporters Parliament added, ‘Glyn spoke to me a few days ago about the idea, I ran it past Brian Caldwell our CEO and he kindly agreed the club would provide some match tickets for the lads who were travelling down from Bury. I thought it would also be great for them to watch the game from the Safe Standing area too. It's another great example of Shrewsbury Town and it's supporters working together in a positive way'.
The game kicks-off at 10:30am at the Lythwood Sports Complex, Top Pitch, Bayston Hill (SY3 0LY).
