Dave Edwards Post Rotherham United

26 December 2019

Dave Edwards reflects on Town's Sky Bet League One loss to Rotherham United.

Shrewsbury Town faced their first defeat in four games this evening after a 2-1 loss against Rotherham United.

Aaron Pierre’s second-half header wasn’t enough to earn Town any points as the Millers secured an injury-time winner.

Town midfielder Dave Edwards was disappointed with the Shrews performance and felt his team could have done more to extend the unbeaten run.

“We weren’t good today,” said Dave. “It’s such a shame because it was such a good crowd and such a good atmosphere. We just didn’t get going today. There were too many of us who didn’t get anywhere near our usual standards.

“If we play anywhere near our capabilities, we would have been able to win that game - that’s football sometimes, you have games like that. Fortunately, we have a game just around the corner to try and put it right.

“The overriding emotion today is disappointment, it’s points dropped at home. Maybe we were worthy of a point but nothing more. We were still in the game at the end due to just hard work.

“We tried hard but on chances and balls in the box, they had the better of us. It was disappointing to concede late on – especially as it was two set-piece goals. They are a big team and we knew it was coming.”

Dave was pleased with Town’s goal and felt Salop needed to do more going forward against the Millers.

“We needed to do more going forward,” said Dave. “We work hard on set pieces, it always gives us a chance to score. It was a really good ball by Shaun and then Scotty to put it in. It was a good header by Aaron.

“We were starting to get back into the game. In the first 20 minutes, we were really poor and then we rallied at half-time. We started the second-half poorly and had to rally again.

“We needed to have more minutes on top of the game. We did create a few chances but not enough. It’s one of those chances where we were really close to the play-offs and we let ourselves down.

“We have Bolton away in a few days and that gives us an opportunity to get a few points. Being on a good run, we felt like today was an opportunity to capitalise on. It has been a tough run of games recently, I think we have come through it quite well.”
