Ousmane Fané Joins Town

3 December 2019

French midfielder Ousmane Fané joins Shrewsbury Town until the end of the season.

Shrewsbury Town Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of French free-agent midfielder Ousmane Fané.

The 25-year-old Parisian joins the club until the end of the season, with an option for a further year in Town’s favour. The defensive-minded player already boasts significant English Football League experience having represented Oldham Athletic over the course of three seasons.

Ousmane began his career in his home of France with Aviron Bayonnais before spending time in Oslo with Norwegian outfit Lyn 1896 Fotballklubb. His move to England came with a transfer to Kidderminster Harriers in 2016, where he impressed enough to earn a move to the Latics later that year.

Town manager Sam Ricketts is pleased with the addition and is hoping it’s a positive move for the club and for Ousmane. He said: He was at Oldham and Kidderminster before,” said Ricketts. “He’s a free-agent, so he can come straight into the squad now.

“He’s someone we have taken an opportunity on. We will see how he is after his injury and take it from there really. He has played a lot of games and he’s a real athletic midfielder. He can run all day and brings something different to the team.

“The best thing is, we don’t have to wait until January, he can come straight in. He’s a very disruptive midfielder and will stop the opposition playing. He can get around the pitch well and he’s someone who not many players will relish playing against.

“You always want competition for places, he comes in and adds to that. Players who are playing well will have to keep playing well. We have players itching to play and that pushes everyone.”

Ousmane will link up with the Town squad this evening and is available for selection.
