Sam Ricketts Pre Blackpool

19 December 2019

Sam Ricketts previews Town's trip to Bloomfield Road.

Shrewsbury Town are back on the road this weekend as the Shrews take on Blackpool in another Sky Bet League One tie.

Town will be looking to make it back-to-back wins with a win over the Seasiders at Bloomfield Road following on from the last performance against Coventry City.

Sam Ricketts admits confidence is high amongst the team and hopes his squad can secure all three points against the fifth-placed outfit.

“The last result reinforces everything we have been speaking about in recent weeks and months,” said Town’s manager. “As a team, we have always got a chance against anyone in this league.

“We know we have to be near our best to stand any chance. It took a while for us to get into the last game but we did - we did enough to win that game which is really good.

“We do draw confidence from that result, but it’s a new game and we have to earn the right all over again to win another game. It’s another scalp against one of the league’s fancied teams.

“Blackpool have sorted out their ownership issues over the last couple of months. I think it has really united everyone at the club and we saw that at the start of the season.

“They have some really good players who we know very well. They are a side that everyone expects to do well. We have to understand their strengths and really try to nullify them as best as we can.

“We have to try to impose ourselves on the game. They have a really good home record so it will be a tough test but one we are really relishing. We aren’t expected to get anything from the game but we are preparing to go there to get a result.”

Sam recognises the Seasiders’ offensive threats but feels his team have enough to nullify that and feels his team can cause any side problems going forward.

“You have to look at what they are going to do as a team,” said Sam. “We have really good strengths in our team as well – it makes for a good game and a good battle.

“I do like Blackpool and you can see why they have been successful. They are coached really well and continually try to do the same things. It’s a tough game but one we will be ready for.

“We have good spirit, great determination and a gritty nature about us where we never give in. We keep going until the end in a number of games and it was nice to get the result last time out.

“We have to just keep ticking over and just keep getting those points. We have a set routine for home games and a set routine for away games, so our preparation and training is exactly the same.”
