Brian Caldwell On The January Transfer Window

Brian Caldwell gives his thoughts on a successful transfer window.

The transfer window slammed shut last night at 11pm with the club successfully managing to bring in 10 new players.

CEO Brian Caldwell spoke to Shrewsweb to give his view on a busy month at the club.

“It’s been a very busy month," said Brian. "I think we expected that coming into December, especially with the change of manager, Sam’s got his own ideas.

"I’m delighted to see the back of the window and back to normality today."

Brian was delighted with the quality of players that the club has been able to bring in.

“I think we have strengthened the squad in hopefully a lot of ways, certainly in the forward areas. What we have brought in has given Sam plenty of options whether it’s Stefan, Tyrese, Sam and Fejiri who’s already been scoring plenty of goals.

“We’re looking good in forward areas and at the back as well. We signed Dave Edwards at the start of the window, once he’s recovered from his injury I think we’ve got a very strong squad."

Brian was particularly happy to have brought Ro-Shaun Williams in on a permanent deal.

“To be fair to Ro-Shaun he wanted to go and play as many games as possible. His agent as well was very positive about Shrewsbury and the club.

"It’s great that we’re seen as a good platform for a young player to come to and perform.

“I think with the stadium and the training ground that we’ve got now I think these are huge plus points for us to develop young players.

"If you look at our track record that we’ve had in the past whether it’s young players or loan players they can prove a point and possibly move on at the right time then they can do so.”

As well as the young talent acquired in the window Brian was also pleased to have brought in some experienced shoulders.

“Dave and Romain are coming in with a lot of experience. They’ve still got a point to prove just like the younger lads coming in.

"They’re all Sam’s signings as well so they’ll want to show that they are good enough and are able to help the team going forward.

“The main thing is Sam's now got options in every area which is what he was always looking for. It was important that the ones coming in provide competition for places.

“I think Sam will hopefully agree that he’s delighted with what we’ve achieved over the month. Hopefully, we can now kick on and climb the league table.”

Brian also revealed that the club received a few late offers for a couple of players.

“Yes we had a few offers for our players, but we weren’t keen to sell any of our key players. We’re trying to build a squad here.

"We don’t necessarily want to sell and the good position is we’re financially sound so we’re not in any rush to sell players. We don’t need to sell players for money.”
