Sam Ricketts Post Doncaster Rovers

26 February 2019

Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's 2-0 win over Doncaster Rovers.

Shrewsbury Town secured three points this afternoon with a 2-0 win over Doncaster Rovers.

Town scored two first-half goals through Josh Laurent and Tyrese Campbell, which saw Town earn back-to-back wins.

Sam was pleased with the performance and was glad his team managed to see out the game.

“I am very happy with the win,” said Sam. “Back-to-back wins is really good and it comes on the back of some really good training time with the players.

“I thought in the first-half tonight we were excellent, it was the best half of football we have played since I came here.

“We played really well without the ball and really well with the ball first-half.

“We won a lot of balls high up and pressed really high up. We scored two but could have scored three or four.

“It was really, really pleasing. We are starting to see elements of how I want to play and how I want us to play regularly.

“We were waiting for the moment to come and Josh Laurent supplied it with a bit of quality.

“Tyrese also is a young player still learning the game and we are trying to help him improve.

“He has that goal scoring knack – him and Fejiri are very similar in terms of being goal scorers.”

Sam was also pleased with how his team defended against the highly motivated Doncaster side in the second-half.

“It’s good to see us holding on for a win,” said Town’s manager. “I think we were lucky it was 2-0 rather than 1-0 with the amount of chances they had.

“I think our goal had a little charmed life at times in fairness. Even a couple of times I thought they were going to score.

“It’s nice for us to have a little bit of luck ourselves for once, but we cant undermine the desire of the players who were willing to put their bodies on the line.

“The blocked shots with any part of their body to make sure the ball didn’t go in.”
