Anthony Grant post Stoke City

6 January 2019

Anthony Grant reflects on Town's 1-1 Emirates FA Cup draw with Stoke City.

Shrewsbury Town took on Stoke City in the third-round of the Emirates FA Cup yesterday afternoon.

Town managed to secure a replay at the Bet 356 Stadium after earning a 1-1 draw against the Potters.

Anthony Grant was one of the standout players in the tie and was pleased with the performance from his team.

“I thought we should have won the game to be fair,” said Anthony. “We had a good chance through Aaron at 1-0.

“They would have found it hard to break us down if we had gone 2-0.

“Everyone knows what Aaron is about - on another day that goes into the back of the net, like against Coventry.

“They brought on the experience of Crouch – everyone knows what he does and he put the ball in the back of the net.

“It was good from everyone today, we need to take this into the league. Cup games are a one off, we can’t keep turning up for these and not do it in the league.

“We took the lead at a good time. Going into the changing room at half-time got the boys buzzing and we came out trying to do the same.”

Grant feels his team could have gone all the way against the Potters and is looking forward to the replay at the Bet 365 Stadium.

“The longer and longer it went on the less they were breaking us down,” said the midfielder.

“They had one shot in the first-half and I thought we deserved the win, but football is a funny game.

“It will be good for the fans, good for the club and good for the boys going to a big stadium.

“It wont be a day out. We will be going there to win like the gaffer said – we want to win every game.”
