James Bolton post Stoke City

16 January 2019

James Bolton reflects on Town's 3-2 comeback victory over Stoke City.

Shrewsbury Town secured a space in the Emirates FA Cup fourth-round with a win over Stoke City.

Town staged a stunning comeback to beat the Potters 3-2 after going two goals down at the Bet365 Stadium.

James Bolton sparked the comeback with a spectacular shot and admits he won’t forget the occasion.

“I don’t think it gets better than that,” said James. “It’s unbelievable.

“We were poor in the first-half and looked a bit shaky defensively. Second-half we came out and were straight at them.

“They didn’t really like it second-half, so it was a brilliant performance.

“Getting the goal was an unbelievable feeling. I said to the lads that all of the misses I’ve had were leading up to that.

“This is something I can look back on. I scored a goal away at Stoke and it was a good goal as well – I was buzzing with it.

“The way I hit it was a bit weird, but I knew I struck it well and then it hit the post and I said oh my god, it’s in.”

James was pleased with the goal but was even more pleased to see his goal contribute to a stunning comeback.

“Fey was wearing my boots so that penalty is mine as well,” Bolton said jokingly.

“We all went ballistic when Josh Laurent scored. Me and Gilliead were celebrating on our own.

“Moments like that is why you play football – it’s for nights like tonight.

“I think a few of my mates will have mixed emotions, but they will be happy that I scored.

“The next FA Cup game is a massive, massive game.  Wolves are an established Premier League side.

“It’s going to be a tough test, but we thought this one was tough but we managed to get through it – why can’t we do it again.”
