Jonathan Mitchell On New Challenge

31 January 2019

Jonathan Mitchell gives his thoughts on his new challenge with Town.

Shrewsbury Town are pleased to confirm the signing of Derby goalkeeper Jonathan Mitchell on-loan.

The 24-year-old joins Town on-loan until the end of the season as Sam Ricketts looks to bolster his squad.

Jonathan is pleased to be at Town and is looking forward to getting started with his new team.

“I am absolutely buzzing to be here,” said Jonathan. “I am thrilled to come and hopefully help the team out – I can’t wait to get going.

“Hopefully I will have the opportunity to play and help the team out. I am thrilled to come here and I have been welcomed so well.

“It has been brilliant since I came in the morning and signed the paper work. It seems like a really good club.

“It’s a really good set up here. I was really impressed and then I came down to the training ground - again, a great set up.

“I had a really good training session and really enjoyed it.”

Jonathan is hopeful his prior League One experience will put him in good stead going forward with Town.

“Yeah I spent some time at Oxford, which was brilliant,” said the goalkeeper. “I learnt a lot.

“It was a lot of ups, downs and frustrations but on the whole it was a brilliant learning experience.

“Now hopefully I can come here and push on and play some more games and help the team.

“You need competition in football and the three goalkeepers here will push each other on.

“I’d like to play as many games as I can and improve daily with the keepers and improve as a person.

“Hopefully by me progressing and getting better it can help the team out.”
