Mat Sadler pre Stoke City

15 January 2019

Mat Sadler looks ahead to Town's FA Cup replay fixture with Stoke City.

Shrewsbury Town take on Stoke City tomorrow evening in the third-round FA Cup replay fixture.

Town earned a 1-1 draw against the Potters last time out but were denied the win by a late Peter Crouch goal.

Mat Sadler was disappointed with Town’s last result and is pleased his team can register an immediate response.

“It was a disappointment,” said Town’s captain. “For all the good things in the first-half, we were equally as bad in the second.

“Without question it was the worst 45 minutes this season and it wasn’t a very nice place to be in that second-half.

“As always with these things after a bad performance – the first thing you will hear anybody say is great, we have a game on Tuesday.

“We have a chance in the Cup to kind of put that to bed and hopefully do ourselves justice in the way we did in the first tie.

“Not in any way, shape or form are we brushing that under the carpet – we were very disappointed after that game on Saturday.

“The only way you can be is forward thinking and anybody who’s watched us this season would agree that it wasn’t really us in that second-half.”

Mat is looking forward to the tie with Stoke but is expecting a tough evening against the Potters.

“I don’t know how they set up on Saturday, but with any managerial appointment you expect high energy,” said Mat.

“We will expect different performances, we will expect players to run and work harder and you expect them to be trying to impress.

“That’s a dangerous opposition for us, because they have some really good players there.

“I expect them to be more high energy, I expect them to be all be pulling in that direction, so we have to match that and go beyond it.”
