Sam Ricketts post Blackpool

19 January 2019

Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's 0-0 draw with Blackpool.

Shrewsbury Town earned a 0-0 draw away at Blackpool’s Bloomfield Road.

Sam Ricketts’ men put on a good defensive display to earn a point and will look to build on the good performance.

Sam was happy with the performance but feels his team can build on the result.

“First of all the game wasn’t a classic,” said Sam. “The performance was good, but not very good as we didn’t get the goal.

“We were more organised, harder to play against and really controlled the game away from home.

“Blackpool couldn’t really get out of their half and it was just the last action that we were missing.

“Just missing that final pass towards goal, the last shot or last little piece of action in what was a very controlled performance.

“We wanted to maintain the aggression and intensity in the second-half. The intensity to win the ball back was excellent.

“It just didn’t quite happen for us today. We got in really good situations – similar to in Stoke, but it was the final little bit that we didn’t have,

“The performance was resolute and very good for an away from home performance.”

Sam was pleased with his teams defensive performance and hopes to see his team gather more clean sheets.

“We were solid,” said Sam. “We were resolute and limited Blackpool to very little.

“If they had scored that goal on the breakaway it would have been a travesty to be honest.

“I always pick a team to go out there and try to win the game.

“We have gone up a place today, so lets not be negative. We know where we are in the league but with back-to-back wins you can really go up the table.

“The performance level against a team who are eighth in the league was good.”
