Sam Ricketts post Bradford City

29 January 2019

Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's Sky Bet League One fixture with Bradford City.

Shrewsbury Town fell to a late, late defeat at the hands of Bradford City this evening.

Town managed to find a late equaliser but were un-done by a late dramatic goal by the home side.

Sam Ricketts was disappointed by the late heartbreak and feels the result is hard to take for his team.

“I'm bitterly, bitterly disappointed,” said Sam. “I think that’s three injury time goals that have cost us points since I have been here.

“They have cost us points away in the league, they have cost us points at home in the league and wins in the FA Cup.

“It can’t continue, we can’t allow this to continue. By no means were we where I want us to be tonight.

“It was a bit of character and ability that got us back into the game in the final minutes.

“Then we needed to see the game out. We switched off and we have done that a few times, which has cost us.

“We should see the game out and we didn’t control that situation very well.”

Sam also feels his team should be picking up points after scoring three goals on the road.

“Fejiri showed fantastic ability,” said Sam. “What I said at the end of the game is ‘moments of great ability should be winning you games’.

“Today it was about getting back into the game and we have to see that out.

“The willingness to get back into the game was there to see. By no means was it as good as we can be.

“We didn’t get going, physically we just looked like we couldn’t hit the heights that we normally do.

“It showed unbelievable character to get back into the game but huge disappointment to concede late on.”
