Sam Ricketts post Wolves

26 January 2019

Sam Ricketts reflects on Town's 2-2 draw with Wolves.

Shrewsbury Town earned a FA Cup replay fixture with Wolves after drawing 2-2 with th visitors.

Town took he lead but were unable to secure a spot in the next round this afternoon due to a late Matt Doherty equaliser.

Sam Ricketts was pleased with the result and how his team coped with the Premier League opposition.

“I am still assessing my thoughts,” said Sam. “It’s a mixture of pride in the players and their performance and disappointment at not winning the game.

“Both goals we can and have to defend better and with that comes the win that the performance warranted.

“It’s a real mixture of huge pride and then we need to nullify a few areas and defend better.

“I can’t be too critical because for the majority of the game we defended very well.

“We were never going to control the game with the ball, so we had to try and control it without the ball.

“It can be done. It requires legs and energy and playing for the break.”

Sam is looking forward to the replay but admits his team wont look too far ahead.

“I haven’t really thought about it yet,” said Sam. “I will worry about that when the time comes.

“We have some big games in the league which we need to match that level of performance.

“If we can consistently hit that level it will be huge. We will turn the draws we have been having into wins.

“Everyone wrote us off at Stoke but you need to see the full 90 minutes before doing that.

“I was expecting a strong side because they want to do well in the cup and rightly so. We want to play against good players.

“This is what the FA Cup is about and with a bit if belief we can achieve something.”
