Sam Ricketts pre Charlton Athletic

10 January 2019

Sam Ricketts looks ahead to Town's Sky Bet League One clash with Charlton Athletic.

Shrewsbury Town return to Sky Bet League One action this weekend with Charlton coming to the Montgomery Waters Meadow.

Town take on the Addicks after Checkatrade Trophy disappointment and will be looking to bounce back with a win.

The Town manager, Sam Ricketts, was disappointed with the last result but admits the game was full of positives.

“I was disappointed to have lost the game more than anything,” said Sam. “Although, there are a lot of positives to take out of it.

“Some players who haven’t had the opportunity to play got minutes as well as some young players, which is really pleasing.

“The standard of performance was good, especially James Rowland and it was pleasing for Sears to get his first goal.

“There were a lot of positives to take from it, but to lose the game when we were winning with five or ten minutes to go is disappointing.

“It wasn’t a spectacular goal, it was more down to defensive mistakes that cost us the win.

“Port Vale played their first-team, so it was a really good test for them and another step in some players progression.”

Sam is looking forward to the Sky Bet League One fixture with Charlton and hopes to see a good performance from his team.

“Charlton are a good side,” said Sam. “They are a good side who are towards the top end of the table – and deservedly so.

“They have made few signings as well, so it’s another game to look forward to.

“It’s a stern test, but one that we go into knowing that if we play like we know we can do – the result is there for us.

“We don’t fear anyone. I look at ourselves and look at what we are good at and what we need to improve on.”
