Sam Ricketts looks ahead to Town's Checkatrade Trophy clash with Port Vale.
Shrewsbury Town take on Port Vale tomorrow evening in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Sam Ricketts and his team travel to Vale Park with the aim of progressing into the next round with a win against the Valiants.
Sam was pleased with the performance from his team against Stoke and hopes to see the squad replicate the same form against Vale.
“I was a little bit disappointed after the game because we wanted to win,” said Sam. “We were so close to doing so.
“I said after the game I was really pleased with the performance and I am even more so now after watching it back.
“We were organised and we won the ball back in really good positions a lot of the time.
“It’s tinged with a little bit of disappointment because we were so close to getting the win.
“When you stick to a game plan with the their effort, determination and work rate like they did – it can get you an awful long way.
“The players are starting to believe that they can win big games when they turn up as a team.
“The replay is another good game and we all want to test ourselves against the best and six months ago Stoke were in the Premier League.”
Town take on Port Vale in the next round of the Checkatrade Trophy and Sam is expecting a tough test from the Sky Bet League Two side.
“We can expect a tough game,” said Town’s manager. “They have a few good players in fairness.
“It wont be an easy game for us, especially going to their place – it will make it tougher for us.
“They will be really keen for it as will we. We will just be worried about us and we will go there to win the game.
“I really want to do well in this competition. You can’t hide what getting to Wembley means for the supports and players.
“It does also give us an opportunity to play players who perhaps haven’t played as much as they would have liked.”
