Sam Ricketts pre Stoke City

Sam Ricketts looks ahead to Town's FA Cup tie with Stoke City.

Shrewsbury Town take on Stoke City in the FA Cup Third-Round tomorrow afternoon.

Town will be looking to go three games undefeated with a win against the Potters.

Sam Ricketts was pleased with his teams clean sheet last time out and hopes to see his team go a step further against Stoke.

“The best thing would have been the clean sheet,” said Sam. “The endeavour from the players was excellent.

“We just couldn’t hit the energy levels, which we are used to seeing. If we could have done, we would have won the game.

“We needed that last little bit of action or that final shot. We didn’t get the goal that certainly the effort and desire deserved.

“We are trying to get as much energy back into the players as possible. The lads who have played a lot of the recent games were given a couple of days off.

“We are back in today and we will get ready for tomorrow.”

Sam is expecting a tough test from Stoke but feels his team can get past the Potters.

“They have some top, top players,” said Town’s manager. “They have Premier League and international players.

“It will be a good game for us and it’s something we are looking forward too.

“We are obviously the underdog and it’s a bit of derby too. That adds a little bit of spice to the game.

“It’s a game we will relish, something we will go into with a real clear idea of what we want to do. Hopefully a plan will come together.

“We go into every game trying to win and the tactics vary from each game, but we will always set up to win.

“It’s nice to be at home in front of our fans and hopefully they will see a good performance.

“Hopefully there will be a bit more spark to add to the FA Cup magic.”
