Sam Smith gives his first interview after signing on-loan until the end of the season

Shrewsbury Town are pleased to confirm the loan signing of Sam Smith from Reading.

The striker joins the club having spent time with Oxford United during the first half of the season.

The striker is pleased to have joined Town and is looking forward to working with the club.

“I am delighted to be here,” said Sam. “It has been a long journey up here but I am excited to get going and start the end of the season and kick on.

“I have heard a lot of good things about the club. I spoke to the manager and I spoke to a few previous players.

“I spoke to Dean Henderson and Ben Godfrey, so I have heard a lot of good things.

“I know they have a good set of lads here, so I just want to come in and prove what I can do.”

The striker has previously played in the Sky Bet League One and hopes to use that experience during his time with Town.

“I really enjoyed my time at Oxford,” said Sam. “We didn’t do so well but I learnt a lot.

“I really learned off the manager and the staff there and they have a good set of players.

“Experience is one of the things I want to get from this move.  I left Oxford to get game time.

“Hopefully I can come here, score some goals, prove what I can do and work hard.

“I will give it 100 percent every game - I like to stretch the play and get in behind.

“Being a striker and leading the line means you need to work hard. It can give other players confidence to work hard as well.

“I really want to prove to people how good I am and get the game time under my belt. I want to score goals and work hard.”
