Gaffer pleased to add exciting young striker to his squad

Shrewsbury Town are delighted to announce the signing of Tyrese Campbell on-loan until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old striker joins Town after a number of appearances for Stoke City in the Sky Bet Championship.

Sam Ricketts was pleased to have secured the striker and is looking forward to working with him.

“Tyrese is a player we have been after for a number of weeks now,” said Sam. “He was someone that we had interest in really early on.

“Of course we got drawn against Stoke and he came on and set their goal up, and in the replay he scored two against us – I was thinking no way is he going to sign now.

“He’s one we kept pursuing and I had a message this morning saying it was possible.

“I am delighted to have him. We fought off Championship sides to sign him and that’s a testament to everything here.

“He wants to come here and wants to play here. It’s a great signing and we are really looking forward to having him and getting him working.

“He’s got quality, he needs games and he needs that experience. We are trying to give him that platform to improve.”

Sam is pleased with his attacking options and feels there is good competition for places.

“You need competition for places,” said Town’s manager. “That’s what we have tried to do in January as much as possible.

“We wanted to bolster the squad so it isn’t the same 11 players playing all the time.

“We have brought in players who can come in and improve the team. It’s a squad game now and players will come in and out of the team.

“It’s not a case of being dropped anymore. It’s being rested, rotated and that’s where we have been lacking recently.

“This will be a big improvement for us going forward now.”
