Gilliead Becomes An Iron

9 July 2019

Alex Gilliead has left Shrewsbury Town and joined Sky Bet League Two side Scunthorpe United for an undisclosed fee.

Alex joined Town last summer after being released by Newcastle United and went on to make 35 appearances and score 3 goals in all competitions for Town.

Town manager Sam Ricketts spoke to ShrewsWeb and he hopes the move will mean that Gilly will get the chance for regular football.

“It is an opportunity for Gilly to go to a club and play”, said Sam.

“He came into here last season and has played well in the games that I have used him in.

“The way we are going to play this season I cannot guarantee him games so we have taken the decision to let him go.

“He was eager to go to a club to try and get the chance to play every week and the club have accepted an offer for him.”

Everyone at Shrewsbury Town wishes Alex all the best for the move and thank him for the hard work and dedication during this time with the club.
