Norburn and Murphy Portugal Update

11 July 2019

The hard work continues out in Southern Portugal at the pre-season Shrewsbury Town training camp.

Sessions continue to take place in the morning and evening, as well as other activities to help build the bond between the squad.

The sessions have been designed to increase the training levels and the workload to build up the player's fitness and sharpness levels in time for the start of the Sky Bet League One season on Saturday 3rd August at home to Portsmouth.

There have been a couple of injuries picked up with Ollie Norburn, Josh Laurent and Joe Murphy all missing training.

As we mentioned on Tuesday Ollie has picked up a knee problem after tweaking his in training. Ollie is now in a protective knee brace, he will see the knee specialist on Monday when the squad arrive back from Portugal.

Joe injured his foot during training and x-rays show he has a fracture. He is in a protective boot and will see the specialist on Monday.

Josh suffered a thigh muscle injury during the game with Wolves last Friday and is recovering well and is completing rehab sessions in Portugal.

Daniel Udoh's visa has finally come through and he has flown out to Portugal to join up with the group.

Dave Edwards and Scott Golbourne continue their recoveries and have started to join in training in Portugal. It is hoped that both will join in full training very soon.

Town manager Sam Ricketts spoke to ShrewsWeb to update on the knocks picked up in training.

"Injuries are always disappointing and to have lost Ollie and Joe for the foreseeable future is a blow”, said Sam.

"It is important they get the best treatment but also that they stay close to the group while they are doing that.

"They both are disappointed that they won't be involved in the first team for a while but we will all be there to help them along during their recovery.

"With the keepers, the initial plan was to get Cam Gregory out on loan but we will have to assess the situation and decide on what's the best course of action."
