Ryan Giles Post Aston Villa

21 July 2019

Ryan Giles gives his thoughts on Town's pre-season friendly against Aston Villa

Giles looked comfortable on the left-hand side of Sam Ricketts’ 3-5-2 formation and fared well against Premier League opposition.

The left-back was pleased with his individual performance and the team.

“It was a good test for both clubs. I thought we applied ourselves very very well in the first half especially” he said.

“We defended the goal very well, we had the right desire and we’re still into our pre-season so we are still developing as a team but we are coming together really well now and I was really impressed with the boys and I thought we did apply ourselves really well.

“It’s just about getting the minutes in and keep working hard to get the fitness up and I thought I applied myself well today so it’s just a case of keep working hard and keep getting as many minutes as I can and trying to impress.

“The atmosphere was absolutely fantastic, especially for a pre-season game. To walk out the tunnel with all the fans and the atmosphere gives you goosebumps. It was brilliant to be here today."

Giles spoke enthusiastically about Luke McCormick’s debut and his ‘great character’ since joining Town.

“Luke’s a fantastic player, on the ball his ability is second to none” he said.

“He’s playing for a top club so he’s going to get as many games in as he can and its another chance for him to improve and work in league football because he hasn’t had that experience which is the same as me as well. He’s a very good player and he’ll keep getting better and better.

“He’s settled in very well and very quickly, he’s a great character and a great lad to have around who will keep getting better and better with his personality and his ability.”
