Sam Ricketts explains the reasoning behind offering popular Town midfielder Ollie Norburn an improved contract.
News broke last night that last season's ever-present midfielder and captain Ollie Norburn had signed a new contract which will see him at the club until 2022.
Sam Ricketts spoke to Shrewsweb and expressed his delight to have secured Ollie's future at the club.
"Norburn is a player who I watched at Tranmere, he got his move here last summer and the longer the season went on the better he got, certainly in my time here.
"He's a really big component in what we're trying to build here. He's aware of that and he knows what we're trying to build at the club as well and he knows how important he is for that.
"Norburn is making his way in the football pyramid and the football journey. He's really excelling, he's a got a brilliant attitude and there's not a lot he can't do in his game. He can tun, he's powerful, he can tackle, he can jump and obviously he's very good on the ball alongside a number of goals last season which adds to his game.
"He's a really driven individual which comes out in his game, he's really eager to do as well as he can, improve and strive on which is why we have rewarded him with a contract. The best thing is he wanted to agree to the contract and stay."
